«Pantone» chose the main color of 2018 - «Ultra-violet 18-3838»


The company «Pantone» on the eve of the New Year 2018 announced a color called «Ultra-Violet», assigning it the conditional number «18-3838». For designers working in different directions, the color fans Formula Guide and FHI Color Guide were released in limited edition. «Pantone» gives the new color a comprehensive distribution in all areas: from graphic design and packaging, to the prevalence of this color in contemporary visual art, setting a new trend with artists from the portal Saatchi Art.

The executive director of «Pantone», Leatrice Eiseman, associates the color of «Ultra-Violet» with a spirit of ingenuity, rich imagination, creative inspiration and new discoveries in science, culture and technology.

On the one hand, the resulting color has a kind of magical glow of violet, which brings to the design of packaging, clothing and interior design the mystery of space, moonlight and forest flowers. On the other hand, it is associated with manufacturability and the desire for new expressiveness and individuality. Even in food there is a violet hue (for example, in the coloring of such tropical fruits and vegetables as acai, yam and asparagus), giving the dishes an unusual and refined look.
